Happy Fall Equinox! Our Sun has officially crossed the celestial equator, nights will become increasingly longer than days as we move through fall toward the longest night. But for now we have a feeling of balance between night and day.

I care about balance and harmony and equity and seeing all sides of a thing, maybe because I’m a Libra sun. I tend to be curious about how folks (myself included) use the word balance to talk about their life, whether it’s “work-life balance” or balancing different social or professional roles. This astronomical moment of transition offers a glimpse at another paradigm of balance, one that embraces shifts in energy. What if we understood the balancing process as our ability to shift our energy from work to home life to social life to rest, etc. How might that perspective interact with multi-tasking and the “always available” nature of our use of technology? How can those shifts be clear and our energy truly be focused? What skills are needed to cultivate that ability to shift?

Perhaps this is really about resilience –our ability to move with the changes of life. And the great work of building resilience in our lives is something worth celebrating.

I hope you find ways to welcome fall and celebrate yourself this week.

“Somebody, your father or mine, should have told us that not many people have ever died of love. But multitudes have perished, and are perishing every hour—and in the oddest places!—for the lack of it.”
